Road Maintenance Operator - Highway Department
- JOB SUMMARY:
- Operate county road maintenance equipment to perform required maintenance and construction duties.
- JOB QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Must have knowledge and experience in operating motor graders with plow and wing, all single axle or tandem trucks with snowplow and sanding attachments, truck tractor with belly dump trailer, loader tractor, backhoe, tractor with rotary mower, tar distributor, air compressor,
- welding equipment, etc.
- Perform roadway maintenance duties, including minor structure and culvert replacement, gravel road maintenance, snow removal, sanding, gravel hauling, patching and crack pouring on paved roads, mowing, and other duties as required by the supervisor.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including oil changes, tire repair, greasing, changing cutting edges, making out required reports required of you. Perform building and ground maintenance, manually load and unload material in the shop or outside. Must be able to perform all duties required in adverse conditions.
- The above duties or functions requires prolonged sitting in and operating the equipment, standing, lifting up to 70 pounds, frequent bending, stooping, and stretching; knowledge to service and make minor repairs to all assigned vehicles and equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Eye/hand coordination; normal vision and hearing range; oral communications skills; ability to function around vehicular and maintenance traffic; traffic and machinery hazards may be present or may occur; some contact with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and other; correct usage of mobile radios, follow all policy procedures as set forth in the county’s personnel policy and road department manuals.
- Attend all maintenance schooling and safety meetings as required by the supervisor.
- May require work after hours, on weekends, and holiday during road and weather emergencies.

Class A Commercial Driver’s license required by applicants.
Must live or reside within the 30 minutes of the county shop that you will be working out of, unless approved by the supervisor.
OTHER ASSIGNMENTSCounty department heads and supervisors reserve the right to amend the functions assigned this position, either temporarily or permanently, at any time as they determine the best interests of their departments. Further, employees may be assigned other or additional functions to fill-in during the absence of other employees or vacancies in other positions.
